LDAP server with self-signed cert fails TLS verification during sync

Does anyone know how I can setup an LDAP server that uses a self signed cert? I get this error when attempting to sync: LDAP Result Code 200 "Network Error": tls: failed to verify certificate: x509: certificate signed by unknown authority

Ok I managed to add the cert into the root cert store, though it was a pita with the helm chart
